Darcy A. Sochia

Gouverneur- Mr. Darcy A. Sochia, 48, formerly of Potsdam, passed away suddenly Thursday January 26, 2017 at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Darcy was born on December 29, 1968 to Eli and Shirley (Stacy) Sochia. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Potsdam High School. He furthered his education at SUNY Canton, earning his LPN.

For several years Darcy was a truck driver for various businesses in the North Country. He also worked as an LPN with Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley and for St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena.

Darcy loved the outdoors; fishing, hiking, and especially camping with his girls, whether it was a trip to Blake, Old Forge, or even just in their backyard. He had an eclectic soul, appreciated music, loved animals, and was a great dad.

Those who knew and loved Darcy will remember how he always enjoyed joking around and picking on people; he liked to laugh and was never afraid to get you going.

Darcy is survived by his 3 daughters, Bethany Sochia, Emily Sochia and their mother, Kathy Sochia of Canton, and Stacy Reade-Sochia of CO.; his father, Eli Sochia of Hopkinton; his mother Shirley Sochia of Massena; his siblings: Gilbert and Calista Sochia of Hopkinton, Wayne and Piper Sochia of Hopkinton, Sheila and David Gardner of DeKalb Jct., Kevin Sochia and Cindy Groody of Parishville, and Loren and Maria Sochia of Hopkinton, his step-sisters: Rosemary and Webster Brown of N. Lawrence, Patricia and Theodore Meyers of AL., Sue and Roderick Yaddow of Dickinson Center, Robin and Michael Johnson of St. Regis Falls, and Cynthia and Steve Follett of Massena.

Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Calling hours will be Wednesday February 1st from 1-3pm at the funeral home. Darcy’s Funeral .Service and Celebration of Life will begin at the conclusion of calling hours with Certified Celebrant Julia O’Brien. Burial will take place at Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Cemetery on May 22nd at 1 pm.

By family request, please omit floral offerings due to allergies. For those wishing to express an act of kindness memorial contributions may be made in Darcy’s honor to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
