Obituary of Douglas Judware Sr.

North Lawrence- Mr. Douglas J. Judware Sr., 75, passed away Wednesday April 26, 2017 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Douglas was born in Malone on April 4, 1942 to the late Lloyd and Gladys (King) Judware.  He was raised and educated locally, attending St. Lawrence Central High School.

On December 3, 1962 he married Phyllis M. Rivers in a private ceremony at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Massena. They shared 54 years together, filled with hard work, love and laughter. He now joins Phyllis as she recently passed away on March 22, 2017; they will be “together forever”.

For many dedicated years Douglas was a bus driver for St. Lawrence Central School District, retiring in 2002.  

In earlier years he enjoyed playing softball, fishing and especially going camping with his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved showing his craftsmanship when creating and building gifts for them over the years.

He is survived by his children: Denise Judware and her companion William Coulston of Salem, OH., Douglas and Christine Judware Jr. of Stockholm, Melissa and Gerald LaShomb of North Lawrence, Ricky Judware of North Lawrence, Becky and Leo Wheeler of Layton, UT., and Michelle and Raymond Hirst of Felts Mills; 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Sally and Jerry Gibson, Linda and Jody Dissottle, Eugene and Melanie Judware, Donald Judware, Diane (James) Swary, Virginia and Gary LaBrake, Patricia and Michael Burnett, and Ann (Ernest) Robinson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his daughter Mandy LaPorte, a granddaughter, Lisa Judware, and 4 brothers: Robert, Lloyd Jr., Richard, and Frederick Judware.

Calling hours will be Wednesday (May 3rd) from 4-6pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop with a closing prayer service being offered at 6:00pm.
