Helena- Mrs. Anne Q. Dawson, 80, peacefully passed away on Monday July 31, 2017 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Anne was born in Potsdam on April 22, 1937 to the late William and Marie (Hallahan) Quinell, Sr. She graduated from St. Lawrence Central in 1954 and continued her education at Canton ATC. Anne had a love for music and excelled at singing as she was a soloist in her church choir. On August 29, 1959 she married M. James Dawson at St. Patrick Church in Hogansburg with the grooms cousin Rev. Aloysius Isele officiating. They shared a blessed union built with faith, hard work, humor, and love. Anne was a secretary employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and Alcoa; in addition she served 32 years as the Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Brasher. Faith played an important role throughout Anne's life. She was a devoted practicing Catholic and a parishioner of St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. Although a very private person, Anne was supportive of public service and a friend to those in need. James "Jim" Dawson; children: John and Joy Dawson of Glen Allen, VA., and Lynn and Paul Muller of Ashland, VA; 4 grandchildren: Matthew Dawson, Kara Pollock, Brian Muller, and Laura Stapleton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents, Anne was predeceased by her siblings: William Quinell, Jr., Kaye Stewart, and Robert Quinell. In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours. Anne's Funeral Service and Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 4, at 11:00 am at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. Her family will receive visitors at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls. Flowers are gratefully declined.
