William G. Compeau

Winthrop – William "Bill" G. Compeau, 88, passed away Tuesday February 13, 2018.  Following his wishes; there will be no calling hours or services. 

Bill was born in Brasher on July 7, 1929, son of the late Benjamin and Julia (Vice) Compo.  He went to St. Joseph's Academy and Brasher Stockholm High School and entered the U. S. Army, serving in France and Germany during the Korean War.  On September 18, 1954, he married his loving wife Eloise Malley.  They were married over 61 years until her passing on May 31, 2016.  Bill is survived by two sons, Keith and Kris; his daughter-in-law Sue; five grandchildren who adored their "Poppa", Sadie Badgett, Lexie Brown, Cody Compeau, Zach Compeau and Cassie Compeau; three great grandchildren, Kenzie Badgett, Violet Brown and Piper Badgett; his siblings, Paul and Kate Compeau, Lawrence Compeau, Carl and Janell Compeau, Corinne Greene, Robert and Sharon Compo, James and Gloria Compeau; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife, Eloise; his sister Mary Shea; two brothers, Lloyd Compeau and Kenneth Compeau; his sister-in-law Corinne "Connie" Compeau; his brother-in-law Vilas "Bud" Greene; and his many pet companions, including Brutus and Pete. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all.

Bill worked at General Motors in the Die Cast and Lost Foam Departments for over 30 years.  Prior to that he worked for the Department of Environmental Conservation, Alcoa, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and in construction for Germanetti & Ryan and Riggs & Wolchuk. Bill was a member of Brasher Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department for over 60 years where he was honored as Fireman of the Year and served in many capacities, including multiple years as Fire Chief and on the Board of Commissioners.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brasher Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department.
