Winthrop – Emily B. Rust, 76, passed away Friday, March 29, 2014 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital with the love of her family at her bedside. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Emily was born on February 21, 1938 in Malone, daughter of the late William and Virginia (Recore) Bracey. She graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in 1957. On June 21, 1958, she married Ronald G. Rust in Lawrenceville. They shared a devoted union of 43 years until his death on November 15, 2001.
For a while, she worked for Seneca Foods and then Cottrell Nursery & Tree Farm doing reforestation. Her greatest joy in her life was her family; always there to provide love, hugs and a great meal. She welcomed people and prepared her dishes with love. Emily had a generous and giving heart, providing harmony in her family.
She is survived by her children; Laura and Melvin Montgomery of Winthrop, Craig and Anne Rust of Newark, Roger and Ellen rust of Manchester, Cindy Brautigan of Wolcott, Jan and Dale VanSteen of Winthrop, and Thomas J. Rust of Marion; two brothers, Paul Bracey and Larry and Carol Bracey of Midland, MI; one sister Edith and Abner Agen of Raymondville; 25 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 6pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop followed by her funeral service and Celebration of Life at 6pm. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Brushton.
