Shirley J. (White) Burlingame, 81, Sanfordville, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Maplewood (United Helpers) in Canton, where she had been a patient since September 1st.
Shirley was born September 8, 1929 to Eli and Viola Monroe White of West Stockholm. She married Ray E. Burlingame August 18, 1946 in Knapp's Station and they celebrated their 60th anniversary together before his passing on November 8, 2006. Shirley was a loving mother and homemaker all of her life and enjoyed her time spent with family and friends. She also enjoyed the many friends she made while a member of the St. Lawrence Center's Mall Walkers, and while walking at SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall. She also enjoyed watching the Yankees.
Shirley J. Burlingame is survived by her children: Marlene and Wayne Williams, Sanfordville; Richard and Suzanne Burlingame, Galway; and Randy and Lisa Burlingame, Raymondville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly and her husband Troy Rathbun, Sarah and her husband Christopher Fink, and Scott and his wife Michelle Burlingame and her great-grandchildren Kelsie and Kaleb Rathbun and Ryan Fink. Other survivors include her sister Carol (Oren) Ackerman, Saranac Lake, and her brothers Gary White, Brasher Falls, Robert White, Fort Jackson, Phillip (Donna) White, West Stockholm, Joseph (Sharon) White, Massena, a sister-in-law Marjorie White, Sanfordville, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Shirley is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ethel Dailey, St. Joseph's Home, Ogdensburg, and Reta Russell, Norfolk. She is predeceased by her husband Ray, as well as two sisters, Dorene Davis and Lillian Alvarez, and a brother, Raymond White.
Friends may call at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will be at Winthrop Cemetery.
