Winthrop - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Agnes P. Guile, who departed this world peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the remarkable age of 100. Born on April 15, 1924, in Whitney Point, daughter of the late Boleslaw and Marianna (Rawa) Pogorzelski, Agnes attended Connecticut Hill Country School and graduated from Whitney Point High School. After graduation, she worked for Spaulding Bakery and the Wiktorik Meat Market and at the Binghamton Sun paper in Binghamton. On August 15, 1954, she married Harold H. Guile in Mt. Rose, PA. After their marriage they lived in Chittenango. then moved to Massena until 1963, when they moved to Winthrop. They shared over 40 years of a blessed union until his passing on March 24, 1995. She made her home in Winthrop, NY, where her warm presence and generous heart enriched the lives of all who encountered her. She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a leader for Girl Scout Troop # 98 for 23 years. Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends, who celebrate her life and the values she instilled in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by two daughters, Marsha Chapman and Marilyn Derouchie, both of Winthrop, her grandchildren, Benjamin and Kellie Chapman, Elizabeth Nolan, Sarah and Ron Morrill, John and Hope Chapman, Scott Derouchie, Devon and Jessica Derouchie, Great Grandchildren: Madison and Morgan Nolan, Zachary and Cassidy Chapman, Keaton Derouchie, Anya Derouchie-Pyke, Phoebe Derouchie-Pyke, Leyah Chapman, Briannah Chapman, McKenna Chapman, Nicole Chapman, Julillian Chapman, Charlotte Chapman and Allouette Chapman. Agnes was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Mindy Anne Derouchie in 1980, her siblings, Stanley Pogorzelski, Alexsandra Mesceda, and Helen Turan.
In the coming days, we will gather to share stories and pay tribute to a remarkable woman who touched so many lives. Visitation will be held at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop on Friday, January 10th from 6 to 8 pm. Her funeral service will follow with Fr. Mark Reilly leading the prayers. Burial will be in the spring at Brookdale Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her husband, Harold.
Her spirit will forever live on in our hearts, and we find comfort in knowing her legacy will continue to inspire us all.
