Brasher Falls - Allen O. Griffin, 81, passed away Tuesday night at the St. Regis Nursing Home, with his devoted family at his side. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop.
Allen was born August 1, 1930 the son of the late Osburn & Pauline (Burns) Griffin, and was educated locally. He married Phyllis Rafter October of 1960, and began their family. For twenty-two years Allen was employed as a laborer with the Weetabix Cereal Company, Clinton Mass. Following his retirement in 1992, he relocated back to the North Country.
Allen's days were brightened by the beauty of the outdoors; whether he was taking a long walk, doing some yard work, or just tinkering around on some cars or lawnmowers, you could always find him enjoying some fresh air.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his children; Robert & Sharon Griffin of Brasher Falls, and Pauline Cardinal of Potsdam, eight grandchildren, eight great grand children, one brother Frank Griffin of Moira, and Rita Wilson of Trout River. A son Francis who entered in to rest November of 1987, as well as three brothers Benjamin, Dwight and George predeceased him.
Visitation will be held Friday (January 27, 2012) from 2-5 at the Hammill Funeral Home. Allen's funeral services will commence Friday at 5pm at the funeral home immediately upon the conclusion of visitation with Rev. Lee Sweeney, presiding. Burial in Carville Cemetery will take place at a later date.
