Arthur George Meacham, 92 of Brasher Falls, NY passed away on January 28, 2025, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
He was born on August 14, 1932, on the farm where he spent his entire life. He shares the names of his grandfather's Arthur J Meacham and George H Dishaw.
He was the third child for Burton and Helen Meacham preceded by his two sisters, now deceased, Jean (Raymond) Williams and Mable (John) Hanley. He is survived by brothers Clifford B. Meacham (Katie) of Gansevoort, NY and Bruce E. Meacham (Christine) of Milford, MA and many nieces and nephews; grand and great-grand.
Arthur graduated from St. Lawrence Central HS in 1950 where he starred in football, basketball and baseball and was later a member of the SLC Hall of Fame. He served briefly in the US Army in the late fifties. Like his Dad, he was a self-taught fiddler and was a member of the local chapter of NYS Old Tyme Fiddler's Association.
He was a dairy farmer working the land his parents left to him for over seventy years until his failing health no longer permitted him to continue. However, he was frequently up on his tractor doing odd jobs around the property and rode his mower to do his own lawn through this last season.
Thanks go out to Debbie and Cathy who have provided exceptional and devoted care for Art in his home for a decade. Kudos go to nephew Dale Williams (Medford, NY) for continued help and support over the years.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Tri-Town Rescue Squad, Brasher Falls, NY.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, NY. No services are planned at the present time.
