Winthrop - Bette Jayne Williams, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at United Helpers, Maplewood in Canton.
Bette was born in Moira to Douglas and Bessie (Patraw) Ploof on August 31, 1932. She went to St. Lawrence Central School and graduated in 1950. It was here that Bette met the love of her life, Bruce Williams. She was a cheerleader, and he was a Hall of Fame athlete. They were married for over 73 years.
Later in life, Bette went on to receive her LPN Degree from North Country Community College. She worked at Potsdam Hospital for 18 years. Bette was an exceptional and caring nurse to all her patients, well respected and loved by all.
Bette and Bruce ran a small hobby farm in Winthrop, which included a popular vegetable stand from their 15-acre garden.
Bette is survived by her loving husband, Bruce, her children, Rick and Kathi, Mark, Craig and Dawn, Shelly and Steve Fonte and Chris Williams, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, siblings and her beloved son, Scott who passed away in 2018.
A visitation will be held at Knapps Station Community Church on Tuesday September 24 from 4 to 7 pm. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at 12 noon at the church. Her burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in North Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Lupus Foundation of America or the Alzheimer's Association of America.
