Malone- Mrs. Bonnie L. Garceau, 70, peacefully passed away after her lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday June 19, 2018 in the contentment of her home with her husband, Greg at her side.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.
Bonnie was born in St. Regis Falls on November 11, 1947 to William Patraw and Dorothy (Mushtare) Patraw-Gonyea. She graduated from St. Regis Falls High School in 1967 and from North Country Community College in 1983.
She married Gregory F. Garceau on December 30, 1983 at the Saranac Lake Methodist Church. They shared a blessed journey together built upon faith, love, and mutual respect.
Over the years Bonnie worked for Human Services in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Illinois, and New York. Most recently she was working for JCEO Malone Head Start; retiring on May 9, 2016.
She was a member of: the PA State Advisory Board for Self Determination, Founding Fathers of Self Determination Northumberland County PA., served on the board of directors for Suncom Industries in Northumberland PA., and served as a board member for Habitat for Humanity in Malone.
Bonnie was also a manager for ARC on Pleasant Street in Saranac Lake.
Throughout life Bonnie’s faith was a constant as she was an active member of the Malone Wesleyan Church.
She is survived by her husband, Gregory; children: Steve and Darcy Cole of VA., Randy and Maureen Cole, Sherri L. Cole, Johnathan Garceau, Tammy and Scot Vaun, and Christina and John Chelius, all of PA.; her mother and step-father, Dorothy and Gerald Gonyea of Moira; 9 grandchildren: Shawn Cole, Christopher Cole, Brent Cole, Rebeka Linacre, Damien Calvaressi, Alex Cole, Tyler Cole, Garrett Vaun, and Olivia Garceau; 3 great-grandchildren: Arianna Isabell Montanez, Alexander Leonardo Montanez, and Gabriel Francis Linacre; siblings: Larry and Bonnie Patraw of St. Regis Falls, Gary and Sharon Patraw of Sunbury, PA., Donna Patraw and Bruce Ploof of Dickinson Center, Connie and Terry Dashno of Dickinson Center, Penny and Peter Derkevics of Sound Beach LI, NY., sister-in-law Marianne Patraw of Boise, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was predeceased by her father, William Patraw, her sister Karen Patraw and brother Terry Patraw.
Calling hours will be held Saturday June 30 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. A Remembrance Gathering will commence upon conclusion of calling hours at 1:00 pm with Rev. Kevin Young officiating.
