Brasher Falls

Brasher Falls - With heavy hearts and joyful memories, we celebrate the life of Carol Ann Ploof Healy, who departed from this world peacefully with her family by her side, on April 4, 2025, at the age of eighty-five.

The youngest of seven, Carol was born on April 30, 1939, in Dickinson Center to the late Leonard and Emma (LaChance) Ploof Sr. She attended a one room schoolhouse until public school formed and graduated a year early from St. Regis Falls High School. She continued her studies in Watertown to become a MERCY nurse training at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan and earned her school nurse teaching degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.

She shared a special and enduring marriage with her beloved husband, Gerald Patrick Healy, whom she married on August 19, 1961, at St. Ann Church in St. Regis Falls.

Carol's remarkable 61-year nursing career was characterized by her unwavering commitment to her patients and the communities she served. She worked in nursing homes, in many hospitals, for public health, hospice and caregivers. She was particularly proud of her time as an elementary school nurse at Brasher Falls, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and kindness. She later served on the school board for 13 years.

Beyond her professional life, Carol poured her heart into her family, cherishing moments spent camping at Mountain Pond and traveling to visit her grandchildren across the United States, including exciting trips to Japan, California, North Carolina, Long Island, and her beloved Portland, Oregon. In her 'retirement' Carol was able to cruise the Bahamas and embark on a treasured journey to Ireland.

Carol was known for her generous spirit and her love for volunteering. She spent time doing taxes for AARP, working on the census and as an election poll officer. Her dedication to helping all in need, be they family, friends, neighbors or even strangers, was shown daily.

Her fondness for delightful diners, a warm cup of coffee, and sweet treats brought her joy, just as much as her passion for Irish music, particularly the melodies of Daniel O'Donnell. She relished trips to the casino and exploring the beauty of nature, but above all, she treasured the moments spent laughing and sharing stories with her loved ones.

Loved for her quick wit and the twinkle in her eye, Carol often shared her sharp humor and joyful laughter with all around her. She had a special way of making everyone feel cared for, often saying, "I don't have much, but I will give what I have."

Carol was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. Faith was a guiding force in her life, and she believed in the power of prayer. She demonstrated resilience amidst heartache, having faced the challenges of losing the love of her life Jerry, to an untimely death on November 23, 1982. She cared deeply for her family, providing love, support and spreading joy proving time and time again that she was the strongest among us.

She will be deeply missed by her family, daughter, Gerilyn (Lynne) Ronan, son and daughter-in-law Sean and Joy Healy; grandchildren, Charli Ronan, Timothy (Ashley) Ronan, Wren Ronan, Sebastian Healy and Jackson Wayland, great-grandchildren Lily and Violet Ronan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The last of seven Carol was predeceased by her siblings, Lois, Leonard Jr., Helen, Noella, Enola, and Shirley.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop where visitation will be held on Thursday April 10 from 4 - 6PM. Carols funeral service and Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday April 11 at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls at 11:00am, and she will be laid to rest at St. Ann Cemetery in St. Regis Falls.

Following the graveside prayers, there will be a Celebration of Life at High Peaks Winery in Winthrop beginning at 4PM and all are invited to attend.
