Winthrop – Carolyn T. Damon, 65, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon September 18, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, VT. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Carolyn was born on October 15, 1948 in Potsdam, daughter of the late Lee and Mae (Gilbo) Montgomery. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy in Brasher Falls, graduated from St. Lawrence Central School 1966, attended Canton ATC and graduated from NCCC as a LPN. At one time she was married to Steven C. Derouchie and then married Paul Damon, who predeceased her in 1991. Carolyn drove school bus at Chittenango and at St. Lawrence Central School then after she earned her LPN, was instrumental in the start-up of the Dialysis Center in Massena. She retired from Massena and went to work part time at the Agarwal Renal Center in Ogdensburg until she had to stop due to illness.
A woman of faith, she was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, who prayed for her family, friends and those she treated while at the health center. She took pleasure in tending to her gardens in her leisure time. Carolyn was an attentive mother and grandmother, showing her family love and compassion, graciously enjoying any time spent together.
She is survived by two children; Steven Derouchie and his fiancé, Lawanda Chase of Winthrop, and Marcia Derouchie and her companion, Rachel Webster-Derouchie of Centerville, VA; eight grandchildren, Charles Derouchie, Paige Webster, Noah Webster, Anna and Ryan Conner, Fay and Larry Nesbit, Joseph chase, Gavin Chase and Alexandria Chase, three great grandchildren, Gabriel Nesbit, Haziel Nesbit and Karson Chase; her siblings, James and Judy Montgomery of Chittenango, David and Shirley Montgomery, and Gloria and Daniel McGuire of Cazenovia; and one sister in law, Ellen Montgomery of Altona. One brother, Michael Montgomery and one sister, Patricia Strickland, predeceased her.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. Carolyn’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls followed by her burial in the parish cemetery.
