David W Remick

Brasher Falls- Mr. David W. Remick, 87, passed away Tuesday March 1, 2016 in the comfort of his home. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. David was born on February 3, 1929 in Methuen, MA to the late Reginald and Lillian (Carmichael) Remick. He was a 1946 graduate of Traip Academy in Kittery Maine and a 1952 graduate of the University of Maine in Orono where he was also a member of Phi Eta Kappa. On June 14, 1952 David was married to Muriel "Mickey" Buckley in Howland, Maine. David served on the Submarine USS Diablo (479) during his tour of duty with the US NAVY at the end of WWII. After college he worked for GE in Erie, PA and Louisville, KY and then was employed as Vice President of Engineering at OM Edwards Company in Syracuse, NY; designing railroad and subway windows and doors. After OM Edwards closed in the 1980's, David established Remick Engineering in Syracuse, and in partnership with his son Glenn, they continued to support the railway industry with David's designs and patents for many years. He was a longtime member of the Taunton Presbyterian Church USA and served as an Elder of Session; assisting in everything from worship to finance, and even climbing the bell tower to reset the cable. In 2010 David transferred his church membership to the Potsdam United Methodist Church when he moved to Brasher Falls to live with his son, Chris. David was an active skier and served on ski patrol at several hills in the Syracuse area, eventually becoming active as a Ski Patrol Instructor as well as a Red Cross First Aid and CPR Instructor. He also enjoyed the hobbies of scuba diving, dancing, and painting often involving his children. David is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Glenn D. and Carol Remick of Simpsonville, SC., son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Donald H. and Rev. Sue Remick of Whitman, MA., daughter and son-in-law, Nancy L. and Charles Kiehl of Fairfax, VA., and son Christian W. Remick of Brasher Falls, NY., his brother and sister-in-law, Harley B. and Carolyn Remick of Elliot, ME., and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also fond of his many nieces and nephews and kept close connection with his fiancé's daughter, Eileen Culotti and her family. He was predeceased by his wife, Muriel "Mickey" Remick, and his fiancé, Patty Williams. Friends and family may call at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop from 2-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday March 9th. David's Memorial Service will be Thursday March 10th at 10:00am at the Potsdam United Methodist Church with Pastor Brooke Newell leading worship. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial contributions may be made in David's honor to: Potsdam UMC, American Cancer Society, The National Kidney Foundation, Disabled American Veterans, or the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
