Knapps Station – Ernest H. Butterfield, 64, passed away unexpectedly at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Friday evening November 21, 2014. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Ernest was born on August 5, 1950 in Potsdam, son of the late Harold and Freda (Wine) Butterfield. He worked at Bicknell’s in the block plant, at Barstow Motor’s and at Tardelli’s Auto Sales in Potsdam.
On June 16, 2007, he married Winnie A. Arquitte at the Knapps Station Community Church with Rev. Leon Sweeney leading the vows. Ernie was a faithful member of the Knapps Station Community Church, always there to assist in projects and activities; he also served as Head Trustee and was a member of the Men’s Group. He was a past member of Hannawa Falls Fire Department, a member of Local #455C, a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling Group in Moira and a past member of the Friday Night Bowling League. He liked to golf, and enjoyed expressing his carpenter skills in his woodworking.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Winnie; his children and step-children, Jane and Charlie LaShomb of Norwood, Joan and Kenneth Stark of Brasher, Linda and Henry Vice of Stockholm, Larry and Vanessa Oakes of Brasher, Sandy and Bill Foster of Parishville, Debbie Randall of Colton, Bill and Karla Smith of Colton, Terrie and Harold Skiff of Colton, Marty Smith of Madrid and David Smith of Madrid; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters; David and Patty Butterfield of Canton, Gloria and George Ladison of Russell, Bonnie Davis of Canton, Vicky and David Green of WA, Mike and Jeannie Butterfield of Madrid, Sue and Bill Frank of Parishville, Linda and Ronnie Butterfield of Crary Mills, and Thelma and Jim Garla of Parishville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Skiff and Patricia Hubbard.0
Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Knapps Station Community Church, 3035 County Route 47, Norwood. His Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will follow at 11 a.m.
