Winthrop- Mrs. Johanna E. "Hanna" Bailey, 93, passed away peacefully August 30, 2013 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, surrounded by the love, faith, and comfort of her family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Hanna was born in Powasson, Ontario, Canada on March 18, 1920 to the late Mathias and Catherine Rennette. She was raised and educated in the Powasson area, attending school till the 8th grade.
In March of 1955, Hanna was married to Myrl E. Bailey. They met in Canada, and after they were married, the couple relocated to the North Country for Myrl's work on the seaway. The two shared a devoted faithful union for 27 years until the time of Myrl's passing on January 5, 1983.
Hanna worked as a waitress for a short time, but her heartfelt passion was caring for her children and home. Being present to her family was a priority to Hanna. She fulfilled daily tasks with grace and compassion. She was devoted to her faith, as she was a member of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls.
Hanna had a special love for her family, always putting them first over everything including her own wants and needs. She loved to bake and was known for her pies and her special white sugar cookies. Hanna enjoyed a good game of cards, especially Pedro with friends at LBSH; and maybe if you were lucky you could play a "fair" game of rummy with her.
She is survived by her children: Mary "Cathy" and Mike Grove of Potsdam, Roger Bailey of Potsdam, Gregory and Gini Bailey of Winthrop, her step-children: Janelle and George Dexter of Bradford, PA., Sylvia and Bob Wilday of Eldred, PA., a step-daughter-in-law, Gerry Bailey of Eldred, PA., her grandchildren: Heather and Tom Jordon of Parishville, Matthew and Brenda Bailey of Sycamore, IL., Mark Bailey and his companion Brittney Bisnett of Parishville, Katie Bailey of Winthrop, 3 great-grandchildren: Aryanna and Mikhayla Jordon, and Masen Bailey. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Always close to her heart is the memory of her infant twins and her step- son Kenneth Bailey, who predeceased her. Being the last of 11 children, Hanna is predeceased by her 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3-6 at the funeral home. Hanna's funeral service and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. Burial will follow in Southville Cemetery.
