Ft. Jackson - Homer Jessmer, Jr., 82, passed away early Tuesday morning at his home, with his family at his side. Mr. Jessmer was born May 18, 1928 in Goveneur, NY, the son of the late Homer and Florence ( McMann) Jessmer, Sr. He married Clara Richards on April 24, 1946, in Potsdam, NY.

For a short timeHomer worked for Alcoa, retiring from being a construction worker with the American Siding Company, Malone, NY.
Homer was a outstanding member of the Hopkinton - Ft. Jackson Volunteer Fire Dept. He joined the fire department in 1956. In 1980 he was awarded the Fireman of the year award. Homer served as chief, director, and was a member of the St. Lawrence County Fire Chief Association. Although dedicated in serving his community , he enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting and being a troop leader for the local Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife Clara of 64 years, his children Homer Jessmer III and his companion Lisa of Ft. Jackson; Steve and his wife Catherine of North Rose, NY; Sheila and her husband William Alguire of Massena; Donald and his wife Nananette of Salam Oregan; and Theresa Robinson of Hannawa Falls , 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving Homer is his sisters Ruth Snyder of Brushton, and Betty DeFranko of Ontario, NY.
He is predeceased by a grandson Kirk, one brother Harry, and two sisters Viola and Burma.
The family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home Thursday from 5-7, Friday from 12-2.
Funeral services will follow at the Hammill Funeral Home, 2:00 p.m Friday.
Mr. Jessmer will be escorted to the Holy Cross Cemetery by the member of the Hopkinton -Ft. Jackson Volunteer Fire Department.
