Winthrop- Mrs. IdaMay Ten Eyck, 87, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2019 at her home surrounded by the comforting care of her loving husband and family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. In keeping with IdaMay’s wishes there will be no services at this time. A memorial service will be held Saturday May 4, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church.
IdaMay was born on October 21, 1931 in Lyons, NY to the late Robert John, Sr. and Anna Alice (Melman) Burgess and graduated from Albany High School in 1949. While in high school, she met her soul mate sweetheart, Alden M. Ten Eyck at a dance. They were married on October 13, 1951 at Albany Trinity Methodist Church, creating their blessed foundation from which they built their true companionship of 67 years.
After they relocated to the North Country for work, IdaMay became the accounting clerk for Kraft Dairy in North Lawrence, retiring after 27 years. However, she didn’t remain idle for long. IdaMay volunteered and invested her time at the BFUMC where she and Al were longtime members, providing experience and dedication. At BFUMC, she held the positions of Financial Treasurer, President of The United Methodist Women (UMW), and she served as Coordinator of the Tri-Town Community Service Food Pantry. IdaMay’s church involvement included her narration of the church cantata for a number of years.
Additionally, for many years she was active in water aerobics. IdaMay was a very talented seamstress who kept her family beautifully attired in handmade dresses, skirts, shirts, suits, and everything imaginable.
IdaMay gave freely from her heart to her entire family. Her laughter, spirit, and smile will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband Alden; their children: Deborah (Paul) Hamm of Dahlonega, GA., Richard (Marcia) Ten Eyck of Black Lake, and Gregory (Carolyn) Ten Eyck of Lake Worth, FL.; grandchildren Annalee (Justin) Everett, Levi (Kathrine) Hamm, Dr. Jordan Hamm, Trevor (Tara) Ten Eyck, Katelyn Ten Eyck, Molly (Ian) Smith, Bess Ten Eyck, John Ten Eyck, and 5 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Kay Burgess, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
IdaMay was predeceased by her siblings: Richard Burgess, Marjorie Mottote, Robert Burgess, Jr., Irene Cornell, and Lorraine Condon, as well as her and her husband's best friends Ray and Joyce Haupt of Albany, NY.
For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions can be made to BFUMC or to the Tri-Town Community Service Food Pantry, both at PO Box 421, Brasher Falls, NY 13613
