Iona E. Rosen

Potsdam - Iona E. (Francis) Rosen, 79, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 at home with her family by her side. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Mrs. Rosen was born in Norfolk on July 2, 1932, daughter of the late William and Ethel LaBarge Mossow. In July, 1953, she married Leslie V. Francis in Ilion. Mr. Francis died on June 15, 1980. Iona married Hillrich T. E. Rosen on Oct. 23, 1981 in Brasher Falls. Mr. Rosen died August 20, 2010. For over 14 years, Mrs. Rosen worked at Massena Memorial Hospital, as a Nurses Aid and then in CSR and also was part-time at the Highland Nursing Home. Iona was a member of the Laurentian Chapter #666, Order of Easter Star in Brasher Falls; and took great pleasure in camping, knitting, crochet, cooking and enjoying a meal out with family and friends. She is survived by her children; Dale and Linda Francis of Potsdam, William and Rhonda Francis of Louisville and Wayne and Sue Francis of Massena; her step-children, Elsie and her husband, Dale Steele and Nancy Robertson of Pierrepont Manor, Hilda and her husband Steve MacDuffie of Sandy Creek; one sister, June Gladding of Massena, two brothers, Paul Mossow of Chase Mills and Steve Mossow of North Lawrence; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Iona was also predeceased by one sister, Beatrice Truax and one brother, Gerald Mossow. Her family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 where her funeral service will be held Saturday at 10am. Burial will follow at Winthrop Cemetery.
