Joan Kowalchuk Moore

Joan Kowalchuk Moore, of Brasher Falls, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the age of 75.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Born on November 11, 1949, in Potsdam, she was a beloved daughter, to the late Elmer J. and Kathleen (Christian) Smith. Additionally, a sister, mother, and friend who touched the lives of many in her community.

Joan graduated from Norwood- Norfolk High School. She married Patrick Kowalchuk on June 7, 1969, at Church of the Visitation in Norwood. They shared life and love for 24 years; Patrick passed away on November 14, 1993.

Joan proudly served as a bank teller at Key Bank in Winthrop and Massena, where her warm smile and kind spirit made her a cherished member of the financial institution and the larger community. She enjoyed a fulfilling career, demonstrating dedication and compassion toward her customers and colleagues alike.

In addition to her professional life, Joan was known for her remarkable talents in crafting, particularly her exquisite gourd art and crochet creations. Her artistic spirit shone through every project she undertook, sharing her skills with others and brightening the lives of those around her.

Joan found joy in spending time with friends at LBSH, where she fostered deeper connections and made lasting memories in the company of those she loved. Her caring nature and zest for life were evident in all her interactions.

She was a member of St. Patrick Church where she received the Eucharist and practiced her faith daily.

Joan is survived by her children, Patrick and Amy Kowalchuk, Jr. and Lori and Jim Giocondo; 6 grandchildren, Tyler Kowalchuk and Brittany Wells, Nicholas Kowalchuk and Brooklyn Haverstock, Owen Kowalchuk and Hunter Mitchell, Vinny and Melissa Giocondo, Nicolett Giocondo, and Olivia Giocondo; 6 great-grandchildren, Adriana, Liam, Kaisley, Braelynn, Maddox, and Vivienne; 2 sisters, Charlotte and Steve Suda, Shirley and Jack Walters.

Her brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Terry Smith and brother Edward Smith also predeceased Joan.

There will be no services at this time however Joans funeral and Mass of Christian Burial will take place in the spring at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
