Joyce Flint

Winthrop – Joyce S. Flint, 91, passed away peacefully at Canton Potsdam Hospital. Following her wishes, services will be held in the spring with burial in Winthrop Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

On May 29, 1928, Joyce was born in Massena, the daughter of the late LeRoy W.  and Aletha P. (Rhoades) Shatraw. After graduating from North Lawrence High School in 1944, she went on to earn a degree from the Adirondack School of Commerce in Malone in 1945.  On January 25, 1947, she married Clyde P. Flint at the rectory of Holy Cross Church in Hopkinton by Rev. Leonard E. Murphy.  Clyde passed away on September 17, 1998.  She worked at Flint’s Store in Winthrop from 1954 until the mid-1960’s. Joyce continued her employment at SUNY Potsdam where she was the secretary for the Math Department until she retired in 1983.  She was an organizer and charter member of the Women’s Republican Club of Stockholm and Director of the 4th Judicial District of Women’s Republican Clubs of the State of New York, past Matron of Laurentian Chapter #666, OES in Brasher Falls where she was a member since 1948.

Joyce is survived by her children; Cheryll Phippen of Hopkinton, Carol Donalis of Winthrop and Connie and Joseph Delisle of GA, several Grandchildren, several Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren.  She was also predeceased by  grandson, Jarred S. Donalis, two sons-in-law, Stephen Donalis and Robert Phippen.
