Dickinson Center - Kathleen M. Aiken, 84, passed away Sunday evening, August 1, 2010, at Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone. She was born on September 28, 1925 in Raymondville, daughter of the late Walter S. and Hester Cole Frary. Kathleen attended school in Raymondville, Nicholville, graduated from North Lawrence High School and earned her Nursing Degree from A. B. Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. On November 28, 1946, she married Newland Aiken at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls. Mr. Aiken passed away on December 1, 1998. She worked at Alice Hyde Hospital and Nursing Home for 37 years and was the School Nurse at St. Regis Falls Central School for 13 years. She was known in her community as the "local doctor", as the children would come to her home for treatment.
Kathleen was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and the Altar and Rosary Society, a member of the Pamona Grange in Dickinson, Dickinson Center Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the Alice Hyde Nurses Auxiliary in Malone.
She is survived by seven children; Randall and Darlene Aiken of N. Lawrence, Edgar and Louise Aiken of Dickinson Center, Gregory Aiken of St. Regis Falls, Mark and Ellen Ailken of Apex, NC, Patricia and Kenneth Boyle of Bloomingdale, Kathleen Woodward of Dickinson Center and Sharon and Nathan Manning of Rainbow Lake; three sisters, Ella Stacy of Canton, Joan and Harold Raymonda of Norwood and Jean Sutton of Potsdam; grandchildren, great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Her husband Newland, two children, Karen Aiken, Stephen Aiken and one brother, Walter Frary, predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen will be Wednesday afternoon at 1 at St. Mary's Church in Brushton. Her family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery in Dickinson.
