Potsdam - With great love and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Marion A. Russell, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 80 on March 7, 2025, at RR Gouverneur Hospital. She was born on August 15, 1944, in Potsdam, NY, daughter of the late Warren and Elizabeth (Montle) Gibson. Marion 's life was a vibrant journey filled with compassion, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
Marion was a dedicated and beloved medical secretary, serving the community alongside Dr. Richard Howell in Potsdam, NY. Her warm smile and gentle demeanor touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues, embodying the spirit of kindness that defined her character. She enjoyed puzzles, games, country music, watching Jeopardy and most important her love for family.
A proud mother, Marion is survived by her children, Dana and Christopher Truesdell, Warren Dashno, Gregory and Kim Dashno, Rhonda Sawyer and Bob Brothers, Lloyd and Joanna Russell, Lori and Ted Hudson, Charolette and Pete Thomas, Robert Peck and Carolyn Meachum; as well as her dear sisters, Mary Lunderman and Ferne Austin and her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her beloved cats, Riley and Riggie, who brought her endless comfort and companionship. Each of her children carries forward the values of love, resilience, and generosity that she instilled in them. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Russell, her daughter, Julie Dashno, her grandchildren, Adam Dashno, Emily Dashno and Joseph Russell, her brother, Warren Gibson, her sister, Gloria Jenks and her daughter in law, Pam Dashno.
Marion will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her passion for life, her quick humor and her devotion to family. Her legacy will continue to shine through the lives she has enriched with her care and wisdom.
The family will gather to honor Marion's remarkable life with a celebration of her spirit. Graveside services are to be held on July 5, 2025, at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam, followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon, where friends, family, and community members will come together to share stories, laughter, and love in remembrance of Marion and her daughter, Julie.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Potsdam Humane Society, reflecting the joyous spirit with which Marion lived her life. Special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Canton Potsdam Gouverneur Hospitals as their care and compassion was beyond expectation.
As we say farewell, we celebrate the wonderful legacy that Marion leaves behind-one of love, laughter, and lifelong connections. You will be forever missed but never forgotten.
