Muriel C. Mahoney

Winthrop – Muriel “Jing” C. Mahoney, 104, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 17, 2020 at the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility. Following her wishes, she will be buried beside her husband Maurice, at Winthrop Cemetery. On September 28, 1915 in Syracuse, Muriel was born to Bert and Mable (Hullar) Cannon. She graduated from Central Syracuse High School in 1933, then graduated from Rochester University in 1936. She earned her master’s degree in Elementary Education. On August 10, 1944, she married Maurice Mahoney in Syracuse, sharing 65 years of a loving union until his passing on April 11, 2013. She was a Elementary Teacher at Potsdam Central School, retiring in 1977. They moved to Winthrop in 2006. She is survived by her friends and caregivers, Rebecca and Ricky Newtown of Winthrop, Ryan Newtown of Winthrop, and Kelsey and Cornelius Guerard of North Carolina. Jing was predeceased by her husband Maurice and her “baby” Bitsy, her sister Eleanor Cannon and her brother, William Cannon.
