Massena - Nancy Lee Hartson passed on June 22, 2024, surrounded by her family at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she had been a patient since June 9th.
Nancy was born on August 4, 1944, at the Potsdam Hospital, the second of eight children to Clyde R. and Ruth (Moulton) Hartson. She was a 1962 graduate of St. Lawrence Central School and a 1964 graduate of SUNY Morristown with a dietary degree. She worked as a dietitian at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse and at Charlebois Nursing Home in Potsdam. She decided in midlife on a career change and earned a degree from the Massena School of Business. Nancy then worked at Frenchie's Chevrolet for 26 years, retiring at the age of 75.
Nancy married Francis Golden in 1965. He passed away in 1979.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Golden with whom she made her home, Christine's children, Jessica and Trevor Newtown of Gouverneur, Kyrie Newtown and Mark Gerrish of Potsdam, Zack and Brooke Newtown, Cole and Shaina Newtown of Massena and eleven grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter and husband, Cheryl and Bill Fritsch of Cato, Wisconsin, their children, Kyle Fritsch, Nicole Fritsch, Melanie and Nathan Martin and a granddaughter.
Nancy is also survived by her sisters, Shirley DuBois of Buckton, Linda Greenwood of Farr West, Utah and Connie and Steve Cockayne of Potsdam, her brothers, Archie Hartson, Claude and Nancy Hartson, Jack and Pat Hartson, all of Winthrop and Jerry and Luci Hartson of Hannawa Falls, many cousins and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers-in-law, Bill DuBois, Virgil Greenwood, Wayne Arquitt and sister-in-law, Rose Hartson.
Following her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 21st at the Massena Community Center from 12 pm to 4 pm. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where memories can be shared with her family at www.hammillfh.com.
