Randall N. Aiken

North Lawrence - Randall N. "Randy" Aiken, 62, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at his home, when God called him to duty; fulfilling his final calling. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Randall was born on June 9, 1950, son of the late Newland and Kathleen (Frary) Aiken. He graduated from St. Regis Falls Central School in 1969, and on August 2, 1969, he married Darlene M. Smith at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls. They shared a blessed union of 43 years, sanctified by the love of their family. Randy worked for Riggs and Wolcott Construction, and then went to work for General Motors in 1970, serving a four year apprenticeship to become a tool and die maker. He left GM in 1987 and started his own construction company, Aiken Construction, retiring in 1999. In 2000, he served as Highway Superintendant for the Town of Lawrence, retiring from the position in 2011. He was a longtime member and past Fire Chief of the Nicholville Volunteer Fire Department; a past member of Tri Town Rescue Squad; and a member of the NY State Association of Town Superintendants of Highways. Randy is survived by his wife, Darlene, two sons and daughters in law; Corey and Jennifer Aiken of Chateaugay and Jodey and Amanda Aiken of Brushton, nine grandchildren; Ashly (Jon) Oliver, Travis, Anneashia, Corey Jr., Dylan, Shalynn, Amiya, Keira and Autumn Aiken, three step-grandchildren; Alexis, Austin and Aiden, three great grandchildren and another one in February, six siblings; Patricia (Ken) Boyle of Bloomingdale, Edgar (Louise) Aiken of Dickinson Center, Greg Aiken of Santa Clara, Kathy (Phil) Woodward of Dickinson Center, Mark (Ellen) Aiken of Apex, NC and Sharon (Nate) Manning of Rainbow Lake, many nieces, nephews, uncle, aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Stephen in 1970 and his sister, Karen in 1973, aunt, Irene Courtney and mother and father in law, Kenneth and Alice Smith. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 9 at the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Randy's funeral service and Celebration of Life will be Friday at 11 am at the funeral home with Fr. Christopher J. Looby officiating. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery in Dickinson.
