Raymond LaPrade

January 11, 1944 — January 1, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond G. LaPrade Sr. on January 1, 2025, just days shy of his 81st birthday. He was at home surrounded by his family.

Born on January 11, 1944, in Massena, son of the late John E. and Mary (Kirby) LaPrade. On May 15, 1971, he married Janet Deshane at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Monsr. Waterhouse. Janet passed away on November 18, 2003.

He proudly served in the Air Force, showcasing his commitment to his country.

Ray was a hardworking crane operator at Reynolds, and his dedication on the job was matched only by his love for his family. Known as "Uncle Ray", he was an active sports fan, cheering for the Dodgers and Blackhawks and also an active participant in many softball and bowling leagues. When he wasn't playing, he was the manager, where he was able to share his knowledge of the sport and express some colorful commentary.

He will be dearly missed by his children: April, Crystal, Raymond Jr., Jeffery, and Marc, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sisters, Joan and Phillip Burnett and Linda and Frank Jock, who hold his memory close to their hearts. Raymond was preceded in death by: his parents and his wife, Janet, two sisters, Mary Agnes LaPrade (infant) and Marie Ryan, a brother, Francis LaPrade and a son-in-law, David Brothers .

In honor of Ray's life and legacy, his family is following his funeral wishes. There will be a graveside service with military honors in the spring at St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls, where he will be buried with his wife, Janet.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where memories can be shared with his family at www.hammillfh.com.
