Winthrop - Rayona E. Thompson, 86, was reunited with her husband, James when she passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024.
Born in Massena on June 7, 1938, Rayona is the daughter of the late Ivan and Eleanor (White) Eldridge. On August 6, 1960, she married James L. Thompson at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, with Rev. Tim Ladden celebrating. They shared a blessed union for over 58 years until Jim's passing on July 20, 2019.
Rayona worked for many years doing home health care for many people. She was a communicant of St. Patrik Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Her other memberships included; Knights of Columbus, Red Hat Society, American Legion Post #514 Auxiliary, Brasher Winthrop Fire Department Auxillary, Tri Town Chamber of Commerce, Tri Town Triplets, selling raffle tickets and preparing funeral dinners, at church and the knights of Columbus. She was a talented cook and baker, who loved taking care of her family.
She is survived by her children, Leo Thompson and Tammy Wilson fo Ogdensburg, Craig Thompson of Massena, Beth Nezezon of Brasher Falls and Patrick and Kim Thompson of Massena, five grandchildren, Kyle Shampine, Ella Thompson, Benjamin Thompson, Logan Wilson, Sadie Wilson-Brown and Hazelee Wilson, 4 great grand children, Claire Nezezon, Remington and Ryder Shampine and Lennon Shampine, a sister, Marilyn O'Brien of Massena, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Matt Nezezon, four brothers, Donald, Raymond, Franklin and Galon, and three sisters, June Furnace, Jane Crump and AnnaMae Gray.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6th at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls. Burial will follow at Winthrop Cemetery.
