Winthrop - Robert A. Deleel, 80, passed away Sunday, November 28,2010, at Fletcher-Allen Medical Center in Burlington, VT. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Mr. Deleel was born on April 28, 1930 in Massena, son of the late Alfred and Edna Jacob Deleel and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Brasher Falls. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War with the #521 Triple A Gun Battalion. He married Elaine Mollahan , who predeceased him. For 25 years, he worked at Clarkson University in the Maintenance Department as Head Mechanic. Robert was a communicant of St. Patrick Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Parishville Hilltoppers. He took great pleasure riding the open road on his Harley.
He is survived by his life partner, Inez Hutchins of Winthrop; one daughter, Jeanette and Charles St. Hilaire of Winthrop, three brothers and four sisters, Charles and Catherine Deleel of Potsdam, Floyd and Nora Deleel of Norwood, Alfred Deleel of Richville, Catherine and Roger Martell of Cornwall, Ontario, Jane Francher of Norwood, Ann and Harold Webster of Norwood, and Ellen and Steven Gains of Chittenango, four grandchildren; Joshua Oakes of Denver, CO, Maddison Fonseca of Huntington, IN, Travis St.Hilaire of Winthrop, Jessica and Billy Planty of Colton, and several nieces and nephews. His wife Elaine, his daughter Paulette Oakes, and his brother Ralph, predeceased him.
His family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, Wednesday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls.
