Scott Johnson

October 20, 1968 — February 21, 2025

Brasher Falls - On February 21, 2025, we lost a kind soul and beloved friend, Scott A. Johnson. Born on October 20, 1968, in Potsdam, NY, Scott was the son of the late Douglas and Judy (Cogswell) Johnson.

Throughout his life, Scott embodied resilience, strength, and warmth. Despite the challenges he faced with cerebral palsy and other health concerns, he never allowed them to define him. Instead, he shared his radiant smile, quick wit, and soft kind spirit with others, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His compassionate soul and love for others formed friendships that will be cherished forever.

Scott had a deep love for life, his faith, and his family. His devotion to God and his love for his neighbors and friends, particularly at LBSH, were evident in the connections he made and the kindness he showed to all. Scott’s passion for sports and movies also stood out—whether it was recalling the actors in a favorite film or keeping track of the latest stats for his beloved New York Jets, Mets, and Islanders, he was always in the know and enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge.

Scott is survived by his sister Kimberley Dunbar and her husband Kerry Dunbar, of Buckton, NY, as well as his late Sister Pam’s significant other, James Hourihan, Potsdam, NY. His grandfather and grandmother Ralph and Virginia Johnson, Norwood, NY. His Aunt Sharon Whittier of Norwood, NY. He is also survived by his nephew Todd Deshane (Patricia Deshane) and their children, great-nephew Toby Deshane and great-niece Chelsea Deshane of Fort Hunter NY, along with his niece Bridgette Pike (Dan Pike), and their children, great-niece Everly Pike and great-nephew Audric Pike of Brasher Falls, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Doug and Judy Johnson, and his sister, Pamela Shea.

In his final years, Scott received loving care from his family, especially from his sister Kim and her husband Kerry. Their dedication allowed him to live comfortably at his apartment, surrounded by family, friends, and a supportive community at LBSH. We are deeply grateful to the residents, friends, and staff at LBSH for making Scott feel welcome and for embracing him with love and kindness.

Scott’s life was a true testament to perseverance, humor, and gratitude. He was always able to find the brighter side, no matter the difficulties he faced, and his ability to stay positive continues to inspire us all. We will carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and strength.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the medical professionals, caregivers, and staff who supported Scott throughout his journey. We also appreciate the kindness and generosity shown by friends living at the LBSH as well as those friends who have remained in contact with Scott over the years, as well as family, friends, and community members who have offered their condolences and support.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, NY. There will be no services at this time, however Scotts family will gather in the spring to honor his life.

Scott will forever live on in our hearts, inspiring us to live life with the same grace, humor, and resilience he showed every day.

Rest in peace, Scott. You will never be forgotten.
