St. Regis Falls - Willis W. Chapman, 75, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at his home under the loving care of family and Hospice. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19th at Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls from 1 pm to 3 pm. His funeral prayers will be held at 3 pm.
Willis was born on November 4, 1948, in Brandon, son of the late William E. and Laura E. (Esseltine) Chapman. He attended school in Dickinson and graduated from St. Regis Falls in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. On January 1, 1972, he married Sherry K. Forkey at St. Mary's Church in Brushton. They just celebrated 52 years of a blessed union.
He worked for Baker's Service in Malone, then Kriff's Furniture. In 1984 he went to work at Harrison & Burrowes Bridge Construction, then New Century Construction, both in Glenmont. He retired in 2010. He was a communicant of St. Ann Church and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed deer hunting with his brothers and other family members. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that called him friend.
Willis is survived by his wife, Sherry, his two daughters, Melissa Moore of Portsmouth, VA and Allison Chapman of Malone, two grandchildren, Ashley Moore and her fiancé, Collin Wilkinson of Surry, VA and Ryan Menke of Malone, two sisters, Ethel Chesbrough of St. Regis Falls, Vivian Muzzy of Vermontville, two brothers, George and Carol Chapman of Brushton and John Chapman of St. Regis Falls, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings and family, Flora Sonny King, Nettie Woods, Edward, Erwin, and Helen and Art Yaddow.
Memorials in his name can be made to Hospice of the North Country or Potsdam Humane Society.
