St. Regis Falls – Mrs. Julia R. Wever (known to all as Judy), passed away on Tuesday, April 12,
2022 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center. She was 87. The daughter of Floyd C. and Edna
(Johnston) Rockhill, she was born on January 1, 1935.
After graduating from St. Regis Falls Central School, she attended business school in
Syracuse. She married John A. Wever on April 11, 1963, at the Trinity United Methodist Church,
St. Regis Falls, where she was a lifelong congregant. Judy was an active member of the St.
Regis Falls Historians’ Group for more than 20 years and had extensive knowledge of local
history. She served as Town Historian and preserved many memories and stories about the
area by publishing the Historians’ Newsletter, which enjoyed wide circulation to current and
former residents of the Falls. Judy’s local history research and correspondence led to many
long and treasured friendships. She was part of the founding group of the Waverly Reading
Center.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John A. Wever, a daughter, Julie Wever (Kevin
O’Neill) of Keene Valley, a son John J. (Erin) of Wells, NY, and a grandson, Edward O’Neill, of
Keene Valley. She was predeceased by three brothers: Stanley, Rupert, and Charles Rockhill
and enjoyed reminiscing with their children, her much loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hammill
Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by burial
in Forest Cemetery, St. Regis Falls.
