Mary. L. Parent, 76, of Brasher Falls passed away on Wednesday, January 18th surrounded by her loving family. 

A memorial Mass will be held 11AM on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at St Patrick’s Church in Brasher Falls. Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Luncheon at Pike’s Place in Brasher Falls (former Knights of Columbus) immediately following the Mass. 

She was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada to the late Neil and Louise (Mctavish) McCosham on June 13, 1946. 

After completing high school she married Gerald J. Parent on November 19, 1971 in St. Columban’s Catholic Church, Cornwall, Ontario. Following her wedding, Mary immigrated to the USA where she and Gerald lived in Fort Covington for a couple years prior to moving to Bombay, later moving to Brasher Falls in 2006.  In her earlier years, Mary was a stay-at-home mother who also provided child care in her home. Later she worked as a home health aid for North Country Home Health Services for 27 years.

A devoted Catholic, Mary also belonged to the Altar Rosary Society, Eucharistic Ministry, and regularly attended St. Patrick’s Church in Brasher Falls. Mary also was a member of a number of different organizations over the years to include the Bombay Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Quad Town Senior Citizens, the Red Hat Society and she volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul store. 

Mary always enjoyed baking, cooking homemade meals, music, and reading.  Mary had a calling for working with the elderly, she volunteered countless hours beyond her work schedule ensuring the people in her care, friends, and neighbors felt special.

Besides her parents, Mary is predeceased by her siblings; Rita, Theresa, Maurice, Beatrice, Anne, Marion, Leonard, John, and Donald.

Mary is survived by Gerald, her husband of 51 years; her children; Garland & Tracy Parent of Moira, NY, Neil & Megan Parent of Yulee, FL, Jordan & Davina (Morgan) Parent of Daphne, AL, and Margo & William Fish of Longmont, CO as well as her siblings; Ray & Gail McCosham, Diane McCosham and an exceptional family friend, Maddlin Boileau. Also surviving Mary are her beloved grandchildren; Jocelyn, Mia, Justin, Macrae, Carter, Dylan, Joseph, and Maggie.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop where memories and words of condolence can be shared with the family at www.hammillfh.com.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s remembrance to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
