Mary Rose Prashaw

Norfolk – Mary Rose Prashaw, 69, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, February 10, 2023, at North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Massena.

Mary was born on March 26, 1953 in Canton, daughter of the late Cyril and Lucia (Scott) Blackmer and graduated from Canton High School.  She married her soulmate, Donald Joseph Prashaw on February 19, 1972 at St. Mary Church in Canton with Fr. Jerry Service celebrating.  Donald passed on October 28, 2007.  She worked with her husband in the drywall business until his death.  She worked in housekeeping at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino for several years until her retirement.  She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, baking, crochet, knitting.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Scott Scheepers of Winchester, Ontario, Canada, two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Ashton, her siblings, Kurt and Wilma Blackmer of Canton, Joyce Blackmer of Montana, Jennie Blackmer of Syracuse, Chris Blackmer and Kermit Blackmer of Syracuse, a sister-in-law, Roberta Blackmer of Utica, several nieces, and nephews.  Besides her husband, Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Roger Blackmer, Douglas Blackmer, Vicky Blackmer, Tee-Dee Whiteford and Bernita Cota.

Her family would like to thank the staff at the “Highland”, North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Her family will honor her life privately with burial next to her husband in St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls.  Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where memories can be shared with her family at www.hammillfh.com.
