Jean C. Dewey

Dickinson Center - Jean C. Dewey, 81 passed away Friday afternoon at the Highlands at Brighton Nursing Home, in Rochester, where she had just recently moved. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home Jean was born in Dickinson on June 1, 1929, daughter of the late Joseph and Lavinia (Morey) Ploof. She attended Dickinson and St. Regis Falls Schools. On August 7, 1948 she married Sidney Dewey at the Methodist Church, St. Regis Falls. Sidney predeceased her on April 4, 2002. Jean always kept busy working throughout the area. At one time she worked at the Sweet Shoppe, The Waverly Hotel, Dewey's Clothing Store, and The Eskimo Inn. Jean also owned and operated Dewey's Diner for many years, where she was known as "Grandma Jean". She was also an Avon Representative. Jean was a longtime member of the Dickinson Center Baptist Church, as well as the United Methodist Church in St. Regis Falls. She is survived by three children, Susan (Robert) Hollister, Terry Dewey and Tim (Melissa) Dewey. Also survived by five grandchildren, Melisa (Matt) Greenman, Amy (Joseph) Indelicato, TJ Dewey, Brayden Dewey and Jenna Fuller. Great grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Moriah , Alisabeth and Tanner. Also surviving Jean is her sisters -in-law Judith Healey, Elizabeth Ploof and Margaretta Robbins, along with many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Predeceased by her four siblings, Lloyd Ploof, Keith Ploof, Evelyn LaBounty, and Joyce Cheney. Family will receive friends Friday from 4-6 and 7-9 at the Hammill Funeral Home, St. Regis Falls Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m at the Dickinson Center Baptist Church; interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Dickinson.
