Brasher Falls - A Funeral Mass with full military honors for Robert John Engle, 79 will be held Friday 11:00 at the St. Lawrence Church, North Lawrence, . Burial will take place in the spring in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lawrenceville. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8pm at the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop. Mr. Engle entered into rest Monday morning (March 1, 2010) at his home. He had been in failing health for some time. Robert was born May 13, 1930, in Bronx New York, the son of late James & Helen (Bradley) Engle. Raised in New York City he was educated at the PS14 in the Bronx, later receiving his GED while in the military. On June 17, 1950 he married Elizabeth King at St. Lawrence Church with Fr. Bartholomew O'Connell celebrating. Robert enlisted in the United States Army. While in the Army his family was stationed in many states and foreign countries. Mr. Engle retired from the military with over 20 years of dedicated service. He was a Korean war veteran. After his military career, he owned a restaurant called the Division of Employment Center, he was a dietician for the Park Lane Hospital, and after relocating up to the North Country in 1977 he worked at SUNY Potsdam in the as a dietician manager. Mr. Engle's last place of employment was with the St. Lawrence Central School as a bus driver, where the family reflected that he enjoyed the children very much. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; three sons and two daughters Robert and Rosamond Engle, Jr. of Illinois; James and his wife June Engle of North Lawrence; Christopher of Brasher Falls. Patricia and her husband Robert Goforth of St. Louis, Missouri; Carolyn and her husband Larry Macklin of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. He is also survived by his brothers, William Engle of Long Island; Joseph Engle of Georgia; Edward, Engle of Florida; and Donald Engle of Las Vegas; 14 Grandchildren and many Great Grandchildren. Robert is predeceased by his son Michael K. Engle who passed away 2003. His brothers Tommy, James, Jack and Michael predeceased him. Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2176 and a life member of the VFW Post 7326 in North Lawrence.
