Winthrop- Mr. Donald W. Prashaw, 80, passed away Sunday August 5, 2012 at the Massena Memorial Hospital with the love and support of his family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Donald was born in Norfolk on December 6, 1931 to the late Wilfred and Ida (Rashia) Prashaw. He married Sally Thompson February 11, 1952 at St. Andrews Church in Norwood. They have been married 60 years. Donald worked 41 years at Alcoa, retiring in 1993, belonging to the 25 year club. He was also a member of: The Loyal Order of Moose for many years, The Eagles of Florida, The Senior Citizens Hilltoppers of Parishville and a past member of the Winthrop Volunteer Fire Dept. He had many hobbies; working in his garden, dancing, camping, boating, and hunting. Donald always took pleasure going to bluegrass music and taking his grandchildren camping. Donald is survived by his wife, Sally, two daughters; Karen and Mike Henry of Brasher Falls, and Janet and Steve Derushia of Nicholville, one sister; Joan and George Patraw of Massena, two brothers, Larry and Gail Prashaw of Massena, and Robert Prashaw of Florida, daughter-in-law, Mary Prashaw of Norfolk, brother-in-law, Robert Vine of Ogdensburg, his grandchildren: Stacey and Scott Scheepers of Winchester Canada, Scott and Sara Derushia of N.H., Tonya and Jerrad Fox of Stanley, N.Y., Bryan and Leighann Derushia of Nicholville, Nicholas and Danielle Derushia of Winthrop, Nathan and Chantelle Derushia of Potsdam, Travis Henry, and Shawn Henry both of Virginia, 14 great grand-children, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Constance Vine, and two sons; one at birth, and Donald J. Prashaw of Norfolk. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-6 at the funeral home. Donald's Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be Saturday August 11, at 10:00am at the Hammill Funeral Home; burial will follow in Southville Cemetery in Stockholm. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: the Tri-Town Rescue Squad of Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley Inc.
