Winthrop - Larry E. Proper, 69, passed away peacefully Monday December 17, 2012 at his home under the loving care of his wife and Hospice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Larry was born on February 13, 1943 in Potsdam, son of Earl E. and Vivian I. (Waldruff) Proper. He served in the U. S. Navy. Larry worked at Wassaic State School as a Nurses Aid then worked at Canton Potsdam Hospital for 25 years until his retirement. He married Georgia L. Remington on June 15, 1991 at the Buckton United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Freeman officiating.
Larry was a past member of the Brasher Masonic Lodge #541, F&AM. He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, cutting wood and riding his 4-wheeler or mule. Never one to be idle, Larry could be usually be found in his workshop.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia, three brothers, Donald E. Proper of Winthrop, Francis C. Proper of Gouverneur and Gary D. Proper of Norwood; two sisters, Sue and Michael Lang of Moravia and Jane and Butch Whyland of Weedsport; many nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his father, Earl and a nephew Michael Proper.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Larry's funeral service and Celebration of Life will be Friday at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery.
