David L. Durant

St. Regis Falls- Mr. David L. Durant, 61, passed away on Thursday February 7, 2013 in the comfort of his home, with the love and support of his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. David was born in Potsdam on November 4, 1951 to the late Anthony Douglas and Winifred (Dunn) Durant. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Brushton-Moira High School in 1970. On August 6, 1994 Dave married the former Cynthia Chesbrough in St. Regis Falls. He worked various jobs throughout his life, lastly as a Case Manager for the Franklin Co. ARC; the position from which he retired. Dave also served 5 years as a school board member for St. Regis Falls High School. Dave had an appreciation for the outdoors; whether it was hunting or camping, or walking the beach while on vacation with Cindy. He truly had a great sense of humor, and a very unique way of collecting change. He adored his grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, his children: Jeremy and Melissa Durant of Brushton, Shaun Durant of Plattsburgh, and Nicole Durant of Saranac Lake, his step-children: Mathew and Holly Austin of Nicholville, and Heath Austin of Oneida, 6 grandchildren: Natasha Durant, and Madison, Trevor, Trent, Tanner, and Cooper Austin, 7 sisters: Faith Russell of Moira, Rebecca Russell of Syracuse, Patricia Durant of N. Lawrence, Kimberly Russell of Moira, Deborah Mintch of St. Regis Falls, Karen Durant of Chicago, and Melissa Burch of Vermontville, 4 brothers: Stephen Durant of St. Regis Falls, Scott Durant of N. Bangor, Anthony Durant of Malone, and Ronald Durant of TN. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 at the funeral home. David's Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be Tuesday morning at 11AM at the funeral home in St. Regis Falls with Pastor Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview cemetery in Dickinson in the spring. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Regis Falls Fire and Rescue.
