Winthrop – David E. Wilson, 57, passed away peacefully at home with the support of his loving wife and family by his side on Sunday, June 23, 2013. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Born in Massena on February 4, 1956, David is the son of the late William L. and Irene (Finnegan) Wilson. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in 1974 and went to work at ALCOA. On August 6, 1977, he married Ellen F. Bradish at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Rev. Louis Gardner celebrating. They shared their lives and loved each other unconditionally for over 35 years. David worked at ALCOA, in the pot rooms as supervisor, retiring this past May due to his illness.
He felt his most important roles were as husband, father and Papa; also showing his nieces and nephews special affection, to earn him the name of Poppy. He gave his love, and was physically and spiritually present for his family with support and encouragement. Family was everything to him and was blessed when his sons gave him grandchildren. He beamed whenever his grandchildren were around; either at home, spending time at camp or just watching classic TV shows.
David is survived by his wife, Ellen; two sons and their wives, Justin and Britney of North Lawrence and Jeffry and Kara of Massena; his grandchildren, Dalton, Madison, Kelsey and Ava; two sisters and two brothers, Helen Ware of Potsdam, Kathleen Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Joseph Wilson of Sterling, MA and Michael Wilson of Gardner, MA; his nieces and nephews, who called him “Uncle “and “Poppy”. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Michael, who now welcome him home with their parents.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8pm and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. David’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Rev. Garry Giroux celebrating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
