Howard W. Goodrow

St. Regis Falls - Howard W. Goodrow, 94, passed away peacefully at his home on July 26, 2013, surrounded by the love of his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Mr. Goodrow was born on November 6, 1918 in St. Regis Falls, son of the late Oscar and Barbara (Hanes) Goodrow. He proudly served his country during World War II in Central Europe and Rhineland; receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1946 as Staff Sergeant. On June 26, 1946, he married Fae LaBounty with whom he shared love and devotion for 67 years. A painter by trade, he worked at ALCOA in Massena, retiring in 1975. Howard was soft-spoken and caring, the rock of the family. He shared his love with his wife, children and was devoted to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The hobbies he enjoyed were; fishing, trapping, bowling, 4-wheeling and cutting wood. His devotion to his family, commitment to his community, and love of his brother veterans was shown by his memberships in the VFW in North Lawrence, a 50 year member of the American Legion in St. Regis Falls, and What Cheer Lodge in Norwood. He was a 50 year member of the Masons and served as Past Master, Past President of the Franklin County Association of Senior Citizens, and Vice President of Maple Leaf Housing. Howard is survived by his wife, Fae; three children, Susan Goodrow and Todd Richards, Howard and Laura Goodrow, and Kent and Denise Goodrow, all of St. Regis Falls; three sisters, Eleanor Mallette of Florida, Helen chambers of North Lawrence and Agatha Parker of St. Regis Falls; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Donald and James, predeceased him. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 and Sunday from 1 to 2 with a Masonic Service at 2 pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Military Honors will follow graveside at Mound Hill Cemetery in Nicholville. Memories and condolences can be shared with his family at www.hammillfh.com.
