Brasher Falls – Mrs. Theresa Ann Monroe, 84, passed away June 3, 2014 at her home. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Theresa was born on January 2, 1930 in North Lawrence, daughter of the late Frank and Jennie (LaFrancis) Dumas and received her education at St. Joseph Academy in Brasher Falls. On May 8 1954, she married Henry E. Monroe at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Fr. Lynch celebrating. They shared a blessed union of 53 years until Henry's death on June 28, 2007.
Theresa was a homemaker; always making sure her family was well taken care of. She took on daily tasks with ambition and enthusiasm.
She enjoyed the company and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Theresa was blessed with a quick wit and was never afraid to share what she was feeling or express her thoughts.
Those who knew and loved Theresa will remember her card shark skills, always willing to take on her next challenger.
She was very dedicated to her faith in the Lord; as she was a communicant of St. Patrick Church. She was also a member of: Altar & Rosary Society, K of C Ladies Auxiliary, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children: Steven and Doris Monroe of Pawcutuck, CT., Karen Males of North Syracuse, and Scott Monroe of Brasher Falls, five grandchildren: Steven Monroe, Catherine Monroe, Melissa Males, Zachary Monroe, and Kristy Monroe, five great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Francis Donahue, sister-in-law Joanne Dumas, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Theresa was predeceased by her siblings; brothers: Francis, Raymond, John, Lawrence, Paul, Carl, Charles, and Gilbert Dumas, and sisters, Cecilia Donahue and Grace Margaret Dumas.
In keeping with Theresa's wishes there will be no calling hours. A memorial mass and funeral service will be held Saturday June 14th at 9:00 A.M. at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence; burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial contributions may be made in Theresa's honor to: Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley Inc., or Tri-Town Rescue Squad.
