Prescott O. Decarr

St. Regis Falls - Prescott DeCarr, 83 of St. Regis Falls, passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of High Peaks Hospice. He was born June 7, 1926 in Dickinson Center, son of the late Samuel and Nettie (Catura) DeCarr. He married Evelyn "Peggy" Sexton on October 22, 1947 in St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls with Father McMann celebrating. Peggy predeceased him on October 3, 1991. He later married Irene St. Hillare, then Irene Caskinette, who both predeceased him. He served his country in the U. S. Army, was honorably discharged and in the 1950's, was employed at ALCOA in Massena. He then went to work for the New York Power Authority in Massena and retired from there. Not a man to stay idle, he started the Cold Spring Fish Hatchery in St. Regis Falls, and with his wife, Peggy, they bought and operated the Waverly House Hotel in St. Regis Falls for many years.. He was a member of the St. Regis Falls Sportsmen Club, the St. Regis Falls American Legion Post #323, the Red Tavern Best Sportsmen Club, and the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls. In his spare time, he took enjoyment in hunting, fishing, playing the guitar and harmonica, singing and woodworking. Mr. DeCarr is survived by his sons and daughters, Connie and her husband, James Marshall of Bangor, Janice ahd her husband, Harry Arcadi of St. Regis Falls, Gail and her husband, Richard Barney of Durham, NC, Penny and her husband Michael Salemme of Dickinson, Ceamer DeCarr and his wife Lois of St. Regis Falls, Deborah and her husband, Thomas Loftus of St. Regis Falls, Shawn Decarr and his companion, Ginger Perry of St. Regis Falls, and James DeCarr and his wife, Tina of St. Regis Falls; one brother, Verick DeCarr of St. Regis Falls; 13 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother, Seymour DeCarr and one sister, Audrey Laramay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday morning at 11:00 am at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls with Rev. Alfred Fish celebrating. His family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
