Lawrenceville – Donald W. Oughterson, 92, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Donald was able to spend his final days at home through the loving care of his friends, Cindy and Mike Lavine and Hospice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Donald was born in Oneida on June 24, 1921, son of the late David and Julia May (Drake) Oughterson. He received his education at Durhamville and then Oneida High School. He entered the U. S. Army and proudly served his country during WWII. He came home and with his brother, Arthur, they operated a 90 head dairy farm on the Randall road and State Bridge Road in the Town of Stockbridge. After selling the farm in 1980, they moved to Lawrenceville, where he became well known for his large gardens that they grew and shared.
He is survived by his close friends and caregivers, Cindy and Mike Lavine of Lawrenceville and several nephews. His brothers, Arthur and George and sisters, Doris Moon and Helen VanArnam, predeceased him.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 am at Stockbridge Cemetery in Stockbridge, NY. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.hammillfh.com.
