Winthrop- Mrs. Sharon R. Dissottle, 57, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh surrounded by her loved ones. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Sharon was born on November 13, 1957 in Malone, to Donald Stone and Joyce (Childs) Stone. She graduated from St. Lawrence Central in 1976 before going into health care. For sixteen years she worked for United Cerebral Palsy in Canton.
Sharon was devoted to both her faith and family. For over 40 years she was an active member of Lawrenceville Baptist Chapel where she taught Sunday school. She was also very involved with her family and loved spending time together playing cards, boardgames, and just enjoying one another’s company. While faith and family took precedent in her heart, she also enjoyed scrapbooking and her clubs. For 10 years she was a leader of the 4H club and was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. Sharon was an avid bowler, where she held the responsibility of treasurer for the Tuesday night league in Moira.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 28 years, Gary Dissottle as well as her mother Joyce Stone of Winthrop. She is also survived by her siblings: Terry and Erin Stone of North Lawrence, Lynn Hunter of Winthrop, Brian and Kim Stone of Winthrop, Sheila and Steve Eiholzer of West Edmeston, Laurie and Victor Waite of Winthrop, Rebecca Stone of Winthrop, and Jill and Myron Taylor of Massena. She was also blessed with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins, who will miss her dearly.
She is predeceased by her father Donald Stone and her brother Dale Stone.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Sharon’s funeral service will be celebrated at Friday at 10 am at Lawrenceville Baptist Chapel in North Lawrence. Graveside services will be held in the spring at St. Patrick cemetery in Brasher Falls.
