Winthrop – Leon J. Plumadore, 61, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Leon was born on September 2, 1953 in Potsdam, son of the late Gordon M. and Diantha J. (Page) Plumadore. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School and continued his education at SUNY @ Canton. He received his Associates in Business Administration in 1973. Leon worked for St. Lawrence County CDP for 12 years and then went to Canton – Potsdam Hospital where he was presently Director of Lifeline service. He was proud to have the position that he could help people stay in their home and be safe. He was passionate about his job and considered the people at CPH his extended family.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of gardening and harvesting what he planted, then sharing the bounty with his friends and family. He had a special place in his heart for his family especially his nieces and nephews. He was blessed with their love and respect, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with them. His personality attracted many acquaintances from all walks of life and he was grateful for these interactions.
Leon is survived by two sisters, Rita Michaud of Lake Placid and Diane Plumadore and her husband, Edward Pierce of Sterling, one brother, Warren Plumadore and his wife, Susan of St. Regis Falls, nieces and nephews, Gregory Michaud, Lori Michaud and Gerald Gibson, Tara Sims, Dean Gardner, Colleen Palmer and Mark Palmer and Sean Pierce. Always close to Leon’s heart was the memory of his nephew, Kenneth Plumadore, who died in 2007. They had a close relationship and tended the gardens together. He was also predeceased by his infant sister, Sueanne.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Leon’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Fr. Garry Giroux celebrating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in North Lawrence.
