Harold Francis Snyder

Massena - Harold Francis Snyder, 90 a resident of the St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena, formerly of Brasher Falls, entered into rest Friday morning at the nursing home, where he had been a resident since May 2008. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop. Harold was born in the town of Dickinson on April 8, 1920, the son of the late Francis and Florence (Guyette) Snyder. He was one of six siblings, and educated locally in the District Number 9 Brasher Falls Rural Schools. On October 16, 1944 he united marriage with Harriett Smith, in Bangor, NY where the Rev. Paul Bicknell presided. Harold was known as a dedicated worker. He was employed at the St. Lawrence Seaway during its construction, at one time at Alcoa in the potrooms, with Earl Delosh as farm laborer, finally retiring from General Motors where he was a truck driver, job setter, and a sand core. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Harriett; A son Darrell and his wife Joan Snyder of Brasher Falls; two grandchildren Patrick Snyder and his companion Andrea Thompson, and Tammy (Troy) Savage of Massena. Harold and Harriett gave much love raising their nephew Robert (Joan) Clark of Brasher Falls, and their niece Alice Savage of Wyoming. His legacy of 2 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 6great great grandchildren will forever remember his love. Also surviving Harold is his two sisters Betty Snyder of Clyde; Shirley (Jerry) Reed of Westville; and his brother Lawrence (Bernice) Snyder of Ft. Covington, along with many nieces and nephews. Predeceasing Harold is his son Roger, grandson Christopher, a sister Marion, Margaret, and a brother Vernon. The family has requested in lieu of floral offerings, please make a memorial donation to the Helena Vol. Fire Department or the St. Regis Nursing Home's Activity Dept. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop. The Order of the Masonic Lodge of Ft. Covington will meet at 6:00P.M at the funeral home and the members of the Order of the Eastern Star Covington Chapter will follow at 6:15. Funeral services honoring the life of Harold will be held Monday morning at 11:00 A.M at the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop with the Rev. Don Alexander presiding. Burial will take place in Hillside Rest Cemetery, Bombay.
