Winthrop- Mrs. Marjorie H. Dissottle, 87, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2015 at the Cypress Cove Center in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Marjorie was born in Dickinson on April 19, 1928 to the late Fred and Maud (Haskell) Dashno. She attended rural schools, then Dickinson School, graduating from Johnson High School in Vermont. On April 21, 1945 she married Louis Eugene Dissottle at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with Fr. John Cotter celebrating. They shared a wonderful union of 62 years, until the time of Louis’ passing on January 20, 2008.
She was a cook at St. Lawrence Central School for 25 dedicated years, retiring in 1990.
Marjorie was always up for a game of cards with her friends and family. She was an avid bowler; bowling in the Saturday Night Mixed Couples League and Tuesday Night League in Moira.
She was a member of the VFW Sam Sweeney Post #7326 in North Lawrence and the Lawrenceville Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is survived by three sons: Eugene Dissottle and his fiancé Carol Flint, Joseph and Linda Dissottle, and Gary Dissottle, all of Winthrop, and one daughter, Deborah Sweeney of AL, a legacy of 14 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Dissottle-Camidge, one son, Robert Smith and she was the last sibling of the Dashno family; predeceased by her sisters: Alice Yaddow, Laura Thomas, Vivian Dennis, Evelyn Corey, Beulah Corey, Sarah Dashno, and her brothers, Fred, Floyd, Clarence, Lewis, and Raymond Dashno.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home. Marjorie’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00am at the Church of the Holy Cross in Hopkinton. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Brasher Falls.
