Winthrop - Mr. Herbert D. Waldruff Sr., 86 passed away on Monday May 2, 2016 at the Crown Center Nursing Home in Cortland after his battle with Alzheimer’s. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Herb was born in Stockholm on May 11, 1929 to the late Charles Francis and Fannie Harriet (Davis) Waldruff. He was raised and educated locally and at one time was married to Annie E. LaMay.
For 43 dedicated years, Herbert worked at ALCOA mainly as a tapper in the pot rooms; retiring in 1992.
He was a true outdoorsman and had a passion for hunting and fishing with a love for the woods like no other. It was who he was. He also took pleasure in snowmobiling and 4 wheeling. Herb would never pass up an opportunity to square or step dance, as he really enjoyed dancing too.
He was a member of the Alcoa 25 year club and the Stag Club in Joe Indian (Parishville).
He is survived by his children: Herbert D. Waldruff Jr. of North Lawrence, Charlotte and Ed Misiaszek Jr., of Potsdam, and Dale and Terry Waldruff of Canton, his long time companion, Barb Bushey of Winthrop, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Herbert was pre-deceased by his siblings, Joyce Zablocki, James Waldruff, Charles Waldruff, and Vivian Proper, and his grandson, Brian Francis.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Herbert’s Funeral Service and Prayer Service will be held Saturday at 10:00am at the funeral home with Pastor Brandon Tarbell. Burial will follow at Winthrop Cemetery.
