Viola Martha Wilson, 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, NY, where she has been a resident since 2012. She was born on February 6, 1932, daughter of the late Orin and Beaulah (Hubbard) Wilson. The family resided in Canton, NY, where she attended school.
On January 27, 1949, she married Robert P. Sullivan. The couple had 5 children. The marriage ended in 1985. She later married Leon Corner on November 26, 1988. They lived in Elmira NY, until his death in 2006. She moved to St. Regis Falls at that time to live with her daughter, Deborah Fraser. In 2010, she moved to Canton, in assisted living, where she could be near her sister, Myrtle Butterfield. After losing her sight, she was forced to reside at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, NY.
She is survived by her four sons, Robert (Skip) and Sherry Sullivan of Richland, PA, Kenneth and Elaine Sullivan of Dillsburg, PA, William and Gloria Sullivan, of Winthrop, NY and James and Trish Sullivan of Elizabethtown, PA, one daughter, Deborah and Haven (Pete) Fraser, of St. Regis Falls, NY. She has 21 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 8 great, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, one sister Myrtle Butterfield, of Canton, NY and one aunt, Edna Saunders, of Canton, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, Orin and Beaulah Wilson, her husband, Leon Corner, two brothers, Fredrick Wilson and Roy Wilson, two sisters, Constance Busco and Mary Wilson and one grandson, Haven Fraser Jr.
Viola spent most of her earlier years working on their homestead farm, which was on the Buckton Road, in Winthrop, NY. They moved from the farm to a cabin that they had built in St. Regis Falls, where they owned and operated Sullivan’s Market, a restaurant and pizza shop. She loved baking and cooking. She enjoyed the outdoors. She loved music and dancing. Viola will be remembered by all from her colorful stories.
Services are entrusted with Hammill Funeral Home. Viewing will be on Monday, August 8, from 3:00-5:00 at the Free Methodist Church, 1491 State Route 458, St. Regis Falls, NY, 12980. Her service will commence at the church at 5 pm. Following the service a celebration of Viola’s life, will be held at the Fire Station in St. Regis Falls.
